This years Research and Extension Farmers Linkage Committee (RELC) session was held on the 21st of July, 2023 at the premises of the Akuapim South Municipal Assembly by the Department of Agriculture. Present were Ms Lydia Akueteh (MCD), Mrs. Perpetual Decker (Mun. Agric Director), Officers of the Municipal agric Department and Officers from the Regional Office of Agriculture.
The Department is mandated to organise a RELC session every year. This is a forum where various stakeholders in the Agricultureal sector in the municipality thus farmers, processors, input dealers, aggregators, Extension officers, researchers and Agricultural NGOs meet to discuss the constraints they face and the possible solutions to mitigate these constraints.
These constraints are categorized into Extension services where Extension officers aid to solve the constraints, others to research for researchers to help solve emerging issues affecting crops and animals. Other constraints are such as bad agricultural roads and high cost of inputs are categorised to policy for governmental interventions.
The Department in the previous weeks, organised the community sessions with the various stakeholders at the community level to identify their contraints and help find possible solutions. These sessions are often termed as PRE- RELCs and they preceed the District Annual Session held with a team from the regional office of the Department of Agriculture invited to help validate what was discussed at the community RELC session.
